Labourer

A labourer’s first job and most important job duty is to continuously learn and develop as craftsmen. Those on construction sites will perform physical tasks such as cleaning, removing debris, loading and unloading materials, assembling and disassembling temporary structures, digging trenches, compacting earth, reading and following construction plans and blueprints and assisting skilled craftspeople with their duties. The job of a labourer varies, changing from day to day. They perform a variety of duties involving tool use, lifting, carrying and managing equipment and machinery to provide support and aid to the skilled craftspeople on-site.

1st Year — 4th Apprentice Carpenters

As an apprentice carpenter you will need to have a commitment to safety and demonstrate a ‘safety first’ attitude on the job site. Have a high degree of organization and communication skills with some basic understanding of modern rough and finish carpentry methods and techniques, appropriate to specific apprenticeship level.

You will be asked to perform rough and finish carpentry to company’s standard of quality, under the direction of the Lead Carpenter, according to the plans and specifications. Bring discrepancies and special conditions to the attention of the Lead Carpenter/Owner. Maintain a safe and clean jobsite. Care for tools, equipment and materials.

Examples of desired skillset

• Lay out and install stud wall framing
• Lay out and install stairs for a basement or deck using a framing square.
• Establish grades for proper drainage of flatwork and simple structures.
• Use of a transit/laser level to establish grades and elevations.
• Installation of standard wall-hung cabinetry and accessories.
• Installation of pre-hung door units and windows.
• Installation of drywall and able to properly tape drywall sheathing
• Familiarity with painting/staining, framing, trim work, flooring, siding

Journeyman Carpenters

Our construction company is looking for experienced Carpenters to join our team. We focus on residential remodeling, additions, garage builds, basement suite development, kitchens, bathrooms and exterior finishing. So, we need a Carpenter/Apprentice with experience from framing to finishing, who loves thinking outside the box and wowing clients with attention to detail and creativity. The ideal candidate will have his or her own truck and hand tools and be willing to travel within a 100 km radius. Most work is on-site, though we have a shop facility for pre-fab carpentry when the job calls for it. For the right applicant, we will consider a promotion to Lead Carpenter/Foreman in six months. Carpenter responsibilities and duties:

• Prepare drawings for cabinetry, framing and other construction projects on-site
• Interpret client requests and provide mock-ups for clients to approve prior to commencing work
• Build cabinets, vanities, tub and shower surrounds and other projects based on demand
• Frame room additions as needed for client
• Select and evaluate materials for defects
• Install cabinets, counters and molding
• Follow all code requirements for kitchens and baths in remodeling projects
• 4+ years’ experience in finish carpentry
• Additional 4+ years’ experience in rough carpentry preferred
• Extensive knowledge of power tools, including skill saw, miter saw and jigsaw
• Possession of basic hand tools, and Personal Protective Equipment
• Valid B.C. drivers license
• Willingness to work overtime when necessary to deliver the project on time
• Capable of climbing on ladders and carrying at least 80 pounds
